Metropolis’s biggest claim to fame is that it’s the legendary home city of Superman; the city honors his legacy with a 15-foot bronze statue that serves as a major source of tourism for the area. Fort Massac State Park, Illinois’s very first state park, is a Metropolis attraction, drawing both outdoor enthusiasts as well as visitors who celebrate its history. There’s also many other rich historical highlights like the George Rogers Clark Discovery Trail featuring the largest pedestrian bridge in Illinois. You can also explore the Kincaid Mounds Archaeological Site and tour the Elijah P. Curtis Home. Besides historical and outdoor activities, you can also tap into local wineries, gift shops, cafes, and local shopping spots.
